Position Summary 

 

Reviews requirements from Aftermarket Sales to modify existing material handling solutions to innovate improvements and added functionality for our existing customer investments. Designs control systems and power distribution systems for industrial material handling solutions. Includes development of specifications, device layout drawings, control and power schematics, PLC and QNX logic, and implementing solutions that deliver exceptional customer value. Works closely with the overall project team to design systems that exceed the project requirements. Uses creativity and innovation to tailor standard product offerings to meet customer needs. Leads project work and provide direction to less-senior team members.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diverse, specialized and complex work involving significant accountability and decision-making responsibility.
  • Designs new control systems and power distribution systems for industrial material handling systems and proposes modifications to existing equipment; customizes standard designs based on customer specifications and scope documents
  • Reviews customer specifications and scope documentation for quotation and clarification. Able to develop changes to these documents in the execution phases.
  • Designs system layouts, schematics, and control devices
  • Creates control sequence of operation documents to ensure that designs meet customer expectations
  • Maintains progress schedules that meet project milestones
  • Prepares schematics and specifications for control panel fabrication
  • Provides documentation and support to the field wiring team
  • Creates Programmable Logic Control (PLC) programs; configures and implements systems that use the QNX operating system
  • Works closely with the Software Engineering team to integrate control solutions
  • Performs on-site commissioning to implement and validate the system design
  • Leads and directs project work and less-senior team members
  • Performs process checks and reviews the output by other team members
  • Assist in quoting and proposal development with Applications Engineering team
  • Travels up to 40%

Qualifications

Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Controls Engineering or related field or equivalent experience

Experience in engineering design and project execution, preferably in the material handling industry

  • Experience with various industrial HMI and SCADA systems and QNX OS a plus
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley controls/controllers, Mitsubishi PLCs, and Omron PLCs a plus
  • Proficient in AutoCAD; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, SharePoint and Visio
  • Ability to speak Japanese is a plus
  • Ability to handle multiple project assignments and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced result-oriented environment
  • Ability to interface effectively with internal and external customers, vendors, consulting engineers, architects, and installers
  • Ability to lead work teams and projects effectively
